ABOUT
The Farm Credit System was created 105 years ago to provide a reliable source of credit for the backbone of American agriculture – independent, small, family-owned farms, often owned by young, beginning and small farmers. But this government program to sustain American agriculture has spun out of control, lending to huge telecoms, publicly-traded companies and customers seeking loans for vacation homes, tuition, and investments. And as Farm Credit takes on riskier loans and neglects vulnerable farmers, it puts American agriculture and the American taxpayer at risk.
MISSION
Reform Farm Credit is a public awareness campaign in support of local agricultural bankers, voters, taxpayers and small farmers maintained on behalf of the American Bankers Association. It has two primary missions:
Educate
To educate Americans about how the Farm Credit System, a government-sponsored enterprise, no longer serves the people it was created to serve and puts American taxpayers at risk by making large, non-agricultural loans;
Advocate
To advocate for better oversight and significant reforms of the Farm Credit System by the US Congress.
